U15s Brynmawr Home 20/03/16

This was the first 'touring' game over the next few weeks against Brynmawr all the way down from Blaenau Gwent.  We are to be playing on our own tour the next weekend and Royal Wootton Bassett the week after to complete a hat-trick of 'tour' games, before getting back to local rugby for the last three weeks of the regular season.

Once again we were fantastically officiated by Chris Williams and thankfully we were because one of the opposition coaches became a little excited and needed some gentle 'calming' down during the second half and in all fairness, Chris is always the right referee to handle these situations.

Brynmawr were touring on the back of a very good season, not having lost for seven months and now beating some of the stronger opposition in their district.  Naturally we didn't tell the lads that!!  The first few minutes were a tight affair with no score.  But then, despite being at home, we looked like we were playing away when we fell behind (as we so often have done away from home this season) on fourteen minutes to a well worked and converted try.  Then on twenty minutes we lost shape again, out wide on our right, to let another try in against us.  So 0-12 down playing at home, we were not used to this.  Naturally this stirred us into action and we finished the half as the better team, nicking a score for Raj right on the cusp of half time and duly converted by Josephine.  7-12 at half time and everything to play for!

We needed to start the second half as strong as we finished the first period and true to our intentions that is what we did.  Seven minutes into the second session Jamie took a typical barnstorming run to score in a position comfortable enough for Joe to add the extras.  We found ourselves 14-12 up with everything to play for.

The game then went end-to-end for the remainder of the second period with no quarter given by either side.  But the match was finally sealed by Brynmawr with a try from some slack defending on our part to let them back into the game.  The try was not converted and despite Taibach finishing the better team, the score remained at 14-17 until the final whistle.

A good little touring game between two very evenly matched sides.
